Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)

Personal, Social, Health & Economic Education is a cross curricular element of school life combining the components of Health Education, Drugs Education, Sex Education and Citizenship with the skills and attitudes required to promote the personal and social development of our children. It is about enabling the children to develop an understanding of themselves and helps them to contribute to school life and to society as informed, responsible, caring individuals.

Much of our PSHE curriculum is based on Jigsaw PSHE, a scheme that provides a whole-school approach to the teaching of this subject. Jigsaw PSHE is a spiral and progressive scheme that sees all children studying the following themes at an age-appropriate level:

  1. Autumn 1: Being me in my world – includes understanding their place in the class, school and global community
  2. Autumn 2: Celebrating difference – includes anti-bullying and diversity
  3. Spring 1: Dreams and goals – includes goal-setting and aspirations
  4. Spring 2: Healthy me – includes drugs and alcohol education, self-esteem and confidence as well as healthy lifestyle choices
  5. Summer 1: Relationships – includes understanding friendship, family and other relationships, conflict resolution and communication skills
  6. Summer 2: Changing me – includes relationships and sex education in the context of coping positively with change
